Thanks to the Geeks and Anoraks

When exactly did the power of the Internet reach your consciousness? Mine was around 1993! Attended an amazing conference in London at the QE2 Conference Centre.
I worked for Telco OEM at the time, which doesn't exist anymore! Anyway, was fired up about the possibilities on a number of fronts.
One, the potential growth of IP technology and infrastructures. We were at the leading edge of telco networks and switching platforms. The big stuff! Here was an opportunity to get into the next big technology.
Two, as I worked in Corporate Communications at the time, the adrenalin started pumping when I realised what a great communications tool it could be.
But, would you believe, it was dismissed. Folk at board level said it would never take off. It was the domain of geeks and anoraks.
Despite the battles with management, we launched our first website in 1994. Still work with that very first supplier > the man who founded the "digital agency" we worked with back then. Though they look very different today. Be surprised if they didn't. We've all learnt a hang of a lot along the way.
My focus has never been on the tech, but rather how you engage your customers with credible, meaningful and valuable content.
A client asked me yesterday if I do SEO writing. No, I said. I don't! I write for people. Not engines. I am aware of keywords and how SEO works, but it doesn't fire me up. People do.
On that point, interesting that one of our leading SEO companies in the region, Hallam.biz asked me to craft the content for their new website - to help them get closer to their customers ... their tribe. Only too happy to oblige.
Well, here's to all those geeks and anoraks that made our world what it is today. The techies, web developers, SEO-folk and content generators. Without your passion for the net - none of this would have happened. So thanks!
We're building on the shoulders of giants - and creating giants in the process:
